Helping Patients Find Hope and Healing
Mental health is just as important as physical health. For Ms. Kristine Joy Felipe, resident psychologist of Care Center Clinic Festival Mall, guiding individuals through difficult experiences is both her profession and her passion. As a clinical psychologist, she conducts psychotherapy for clients going through stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma. As a forensic psychologist, she conducts psychological evaluations and serves as an expert witness in VAWC and annulment cases.
A Person-Centered Approach to Therapy
Known to her patients as Psych Tin, what sets her apart is her compassionate and person-centered approach to therapy. She focuses on making patients feel safe, respected, and empowered to take an active role in their healing journey.
Psych Tin believes that therapy should never feel forced or rushed. Each individual has their own pace, and every story deserves to be told when the person is ready. For many first-time patients, the biggest challenge is simply knowing where to begin. So rather than directing the conversation, Psych Tin encourages them to start wherever they feel most comfortable. By allowing patients to lead the process, she builds trust, establishes rapport, and creates a safe space where patients can openly express themselves without fear of judgment.
The Most Rewarding Part of Her Work
Psych Tin primarily provides care to individuals with extensive histories of trauma. Through therapy, she helps them recognize that while painful experiences are part of their story, they do not define who they are.
Seeing patients leave a session smiling and affirming that they feel lighter and more hopeful reminds her why she chose this profession. Knowing that she has helped someone take even one step forward on their healing journey makes her work deeply rewarding.
Everyday Habits for Mental Well-Being
As a mental health advocate, Psych Tin encourages everyone to be proactive in caring for their mental well-being. She emphasizes that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Here are some practical tips she shared for maintaining good mental health:
1. Do something you love on a daily basis. Spend at least 30 minutes a day doing something you enjoy to reset your mind. It can be as simple as watching K-dramas, journaling, listening to music, or cooking.
2. Manage your physical health. Take good care of yourself by eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep.
3. Learn healthy ways to manage stress. There’s no one-size-fits-all technique to manage stress. Explore different healthy ways to cope with stress and find one that works for you.
4. Stay Connected with Others. Establishing reliable social connections, whether it’s family, friends, or community members who share similar interests, can help boost your mental health.
5. Seek help early. You do not have to wait until you are in crisis before consulting a mental health professional. If stress, anxiety, or emotional difficulties are affecting your daily life, don’t be afraid to seek guidance to prevent problems from becoming more severe.
