MEET THE DOCTOR:
Dr. Rennelyn D. Vivar, MD
General Pediatrician
Clinic Schedule – Care Center, Gateway
Thursday | 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Friday | On Call
Dr. Rennelyn D. Vivar has been a general pediatrician for more than two decades. She handles first-time consultations, routine checkups, vaccinations, and common childhood conditions. Many of her former patients still consult with her even in their 20s. Dr. Vivar now cares for some of their children, too, making her a trusted pediatrician for families across generations.
Why Pediatrics?
Dr. Vivar once imagined herself pursuing Dermatology, but life steered her in the direction of Pediatrics. Over time, she realized that pediatrics aligned naturally with who she is: calm, patient, and genuinely happy around children.
“Being around children is uplifting,” Dr. Vivar shares. They are endearing and full of energy, bringing warmth to every consultation. Caring for children inspires her to be gentle, attentive, and fully present, especially since many young patients can’t express what they feel yet. For Dr. Vivar, pediatrics is not just a profession, but a calling she’s grateful to follow.
Patient Approach
Known for her hands-on and attentive care, Dr. Vivar closely monitors her patients’ progress. She explains medical conditions in simple, relatable terms to help parents understand easily. When she suspects a concerning condition, she acts promptly and refers the patient to a specialist. She also practices thoughtful and practical prescribing, giving only the necessary amount of medication while being mindful of both effectiveness and cost.
Common Health Conditions Encountered
- Pneumonia
- Asthma
- Chickenpox
- Hand, foot, and mouth disease
- Other viral infections
- Picky eating and underweight concerns
- Speech delay
For developmental concerns, she emphasizes the critical screening period at 18–24 months. When she sees red flags, she immediately refers patients to developmental pediatricians.
Health Tips
- Make it a habit to schedule regular well-child checkups for your baby. These visits are vital for making sure they’re meeting all their milestones and addressing any questions you have before a problem starts.
- Complete your child’s immunizations: 0–2 years old is the most critical period.
- Stay up to date on recommended booster shots.
- Avoid foods high in salt, fat, preservatives, soft drinks, and other sugary drinks.
- Don’t panic when your child has a high fever because panic clouds judgment.
- Practice handwashing to reduce common infections.
